Trastevere is not only Sonnino's Carbonara, it hides squares, churches, alleys and museums all to be seen and discovered. Here Trilussa was born and here he composed most of his poems telling the life of these people who lived humbly but with so much joy in their hearts!!! Here time seems to stand still; the old 500s, the cats, the cobblestones, everything reminds of a neighborhood that has maintained its style over time, here it is nice to get lost in the alleys...
Rome's alleys are known worldwide for their beauty and uniqueness. Our alley stands out in this. In fact, Vicolo del Piede connects Via della Pelliccia to Via della Paglia and its toponym is very uncertain. Various in fact are the interpretations: ranging from the classic sign of a tavern to a foot of a statue walled in a house, from the shape of the alley itself to the Latin expression "ad pedes," in the sense of "at," perhaps because of the alley's close relationship with the nearby basilica of S.Maria in Trastevere. Absolutely not to be missed!
The basilica dates back to the fourth century and gives a golden mosaic on the exterior facade. Inside, however, everything is transformed into gilded decorations and mosaics, and inside this church is the Avila Chapel by Antonio Gherardi, one of the most important works of the Baroque.
Besides the basilica of S.Maria in Trastevere, absolutely not to be missed is the Basilica of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere! This is one of the main churches in the neighborhood and is named after Santa Cecilia, a Roman noblewoman who over time became the patron saint of music. Supposedly, this basilica is located on the exact spot where this young woman lived.
An island that lies in the middle of the Tiber.... Rome manages to give us that too, an island in the middle of the center....Ponte Fabricio, has kept its original composition and is also the oldest of its kind. Its construction dates back to 62 BC....If you want some advice, you can really start from the Tiber Island and then walk towards Trastevere.
